Local watering holes - River Beaches - Praia Fluvial Froia

Our nearest coastal beaches are about coming up 2 hours drive away for us, and Portugal can certainly boast about having some of the most natural beautiful beaches in the world, but we are so lucky to live in such natural beautiful countryside with its many rivers and lakes and its just a 5 minute drive or 25 minute walk to go swimming in a natural river which has been developed into a river beach. The Portuguese name for a river beach is "Praia Fluvial" and within a 30 km radius of us we must have at least 20 of these river beaches, and that's not counting the natural caves and water holes, water falls, which we have been told about but haven't got round to viewing. Our nearest river beach is called Froia Praia Fluvial which offers lovely walks, many picnic and B.B.Q. areas, a restaurant cafe and, of course, the very inviting river itself for swimming in. The beach officially opens at the beginning of July when the schools are finished for the summer and then its out with the plastic chairs, sun loungers and swimming platforms ready for its visitors.
